Perfect Circle Cupcakery - Orange
Well after 45 minutes of waiting which allowed me to eat my lunch and check my mail numerous times the Perfect Circle Cupcakery in Orange finally opened! I read yesterday on Fast Food Maven (Hi Nancy!) that they were supposed to open at 11:00 AM, I strolled up at 11:30 and the door was locked, so I went and grabbed some lunch. After I ate it was 11:50 and they said it would be another 15 minutes till they opened. After about 40 more minutes of waiting they finally opened their doors and I was lucky enough to be the first customer. The owner said she was still in the soft launch process but that they plan to be open for reals now. Service was nice, but there isn’t really much to taking my order of cupcakes and putting them neatly in a box for me to take home, but both the girls were nice that were serving.
Now on to what they have. They had 8 cupcake varieties today and all cupcakes are $3. In my opinion they are a little expensive especially since they are just normal size varieties, not the slightly larger ones that I’ve had from some other cupcake shops.
Today’s flavors were…
Sweet Joe, which looks like a apple crumb with a little bit of powered sugar on top.
Old Towne Orange, topped with a orange slice.
Princess Vanilla, white on white.
Coconut Bliss
Queen Red Velvet, red cake with cream cheese frosting (not filled, just topped).
Snickerdoodle
King Chocolate, white on chocolate
Vanilla Peppermint, unsure what they look like because they were still being worked on.
I ordered 6 (2 Red, 2 King, 1 Old Towne, and 1 Snicker) to go and ate one of the Red Velvets, which was good. The frosting was just sweet enough to not be too overpowering the cake was not dry and not too moist, it was just about perfect. I’ll add more later to see what everyone else thinks of them tonight.
The store has a nice look to it, decorated with pastel blue walls, black and white accents, a flat screen playing Breakfast at Tiffanys and enough seating for about 12 or so people.
No star review since they just opened.

Sassoon Chicken - Orange
A couple weeks ago I found myself in Orange for lunch and I was craving PCH Hot Dogs but had no cash on me so I went to one of my old favorites, Sassoon Chicken. It has been a couple years since my last visit because I actually thought they had closed. Fortunately I was wrong so I got my old standby.
The Beef Shawerma Plate ($8.95) is a tasty mix of spices and herbs that just make my mount ask for more. Along with a bunch of beef, the plate comes with some lettuce (they call it a salad but it has no dressing), 2 pitas, garlic hummus, and tahini sauce. I basically eat it like I would eat carne asada, rip off a piece of pita, toss in some meat, and dip it in hummus and tahini to get an explosion of flavors cascading in my mouth.
It definitely was a great visit and brought back memories of why I enjoyed their food in the first place.

Blake’s Place - Anaheim
My relationship with Blake’s Place in Anaheim goes back nearly 11 years ago, when I found a coupon for them in the Pennysaver and tried them out. Blake’s Place was great from the first taste back then, but then the relationship that brought me to their part of town fizzled and so did my recollection of Blake’s location. Fate brought me back to Blake’s a year ago, when after reading some online restaurant reviews I was reunited with one of my first loves, Blake’s Place! A great restaurant is scary especially if you really like going there. There is so much to live up to once you like a place, but after many visits and numerous introductions to friends, Blake’s Place has never failed. Every family, friend, or co-worker that I have taken there has declared it some of the best BBQ they have ever had.

Today I ordered the special they had on their side wall, Prime Rib Sandwich ($8.95), smoked cuts of prime rib on a french roll, with horseradish, swiss cheese, tomatoes, served with french fries and a side of au-jus.
The meat was so tender and delicious, I can’t remember having smoked prime rib, but it really delighted my senses. I’m not a big fan of french fries, but when they are the carrying receptacles for sweet BBQ-sauce I’m willing to accept as many french fries as my stomach can handle. This meal hit my BBQ cravings spot on.
Blake’s Place is industrial zoned dining at it’s best, don’t let their location fool you, this is the best BBQ in all of Orange County, anyone that doesn’t agree hasn’t tried it. As you can see from the picture below, this place isn’t some fly by night BBQ, it’s one of the most popular places in the area, at 11:30 AM the place was packed inside nearly 3/4 full and there were over 10 people waiting in line to place orders. Arrive early, or late to avoid the lunch time rush, or just go there for dinner.![]()
Also a little shout out to my fellow reviewers at the O.C. Weekly with this picture of my food, while I was reading their reviews for this week.
Visit 12/12/08 for lunch.

Eat in OC News - December 2008
There may be a lack of new posts in the upcoming weeks as we search for a new home office for Eat in OC. The Mrs. and I are currently in the process of purchasing a home in the city of Orange. If you are interested in reading about it you can check out my personal blog at DanGarion.com. Thanks for coming by.
Las Vegas 2008
After we celebrated Thanksgiving with our families, we headed out to Las Vegas to relax and spend some time with friends. Although I’m not going to go in depth about the food we ate, I’m going to do a quick review.
Don’t go to the Cafe/Coffee Shop at Bally’s service was terrible and the food was buttery greasy.

BLT Burger inside The Mirage was really good, the shakes are awesome and the burgers are good, sweet potato fries could use some sauce.

The Carnegie Deli inside The Mirage was good too. I had the “Woody Allen” which is 6 inches of corned beef and pastrami on bread and I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it. Their mustard is just heaven.

The Mad Greek in Baker on the way home was a nice early lunch. The cheeseburger was really good, although their zucchini was soggy.

Had a fun trip and it took our minds off some things that we are working on (another post will talk about this).

Orange County - OC Register’s Food Section Run by Morons - Stick a Fork In It - OC Weekly
Gustavo from OC Weekly rants about the OC Register’s food section and their terrible decision to let Kat Nguyen from their food blog go. I communicated with Kat from time to time on both the Register’s site and on mine and the entire OC Food Blogging community lost a very strong advocate with the OC Register’s decision. Kat if you are out there thank you for your countless hours of reading and your support the last 6 months. Both myself and my wife are not happy with this and are going to write a letter to them regarding it.
