The Lazy Dog Cafe - Westminster

My fiancee and I went here last night after checking the menu out a couple weeks ago. We always have to be cautious at new places because she’s a vegetarian so we always make sure there is something for her. She got the grilled cheese and really liked it. It had a mixture of cheeses including gouda I had a taste and it was great. I had the Warmed Chicken Focaccia sandwich and it was savory. It was a very basic sandwich but was perfect for my mood. Along with that we also got a side caesar which had a slightly sweet taste to it that really impressed me. My only regret was getting the chili cheese on the french fries. The chili was good, but it was too hearty and tomato-y to be used on fries.

I ordered one of their Lazy Dog Hefes and it was good. It had a slightly darker / orange color then what I’m used to, but was good none the same.

We really enjoyed the decor and ambiance with the pictures of dogs.

Service was great, our waiter did a very good job making sure were were taken care of.

Hacienda Flores Mexican Food - Orange

The family that runs this place is very nice. Their food is excellent. I usually order the carne asada tacos. I’m not sure what else really to say but it’s worth going to because the food is that good. It’s a small place so if you are going during prime lunch hours you might have to get it to go.

Cha Thai Restaurant - Orange

I usually go to Cha Thai once of twice a month as a change in the normal workday lunch experience. My favorite dish to get is the Red Curry Chicken, which is excellent. I’ve gone to other Thai restaurants and they have been bland and tasteless, but Cha Thai’s red curry has magnificent flavor. I’ve also tried the Chicken Pad Thai and it’s delicious. The lunch special portions are generous and the service is nice. Gets very busy at 12 PM so I’m glad my lunch is at 11.

Dominic’s Ristorante Italiano - Cypress

Dominic’s is one of the best Italian places I’ve ever ate at. I’ve tried about 6 or 7 different dishes and so far the Chicken Pizzaolia is the best I’ve had, while the Cheese Raviloi was just ok. The family that runs this place are great, all the staff make you feel at home. Their breadsticks are to die for.

Fred’s Mexican Cafe - Huntington Beach

I was a pretty happy with Fred’s up until my last visit. After checking with the hostess who said the way was 15 minutes, we waited 25 minutes, and then I checked back with the hostess and our name wasn’t on the list. We waited about 10 minutes because of this mistake. Once we were seated it took about 15 minutes to get our waitress to take our order. Another 20 minutes later our food arrived. The food was good but everything else began to go downhill. During our entire meal the waitress never came back and no one in party was ever given a refill on our drinks, nor were we asked how our meal was. We finished our meal the waitress came by and went to get me a refill of my coke. When she handed me the glass something looked wrong with it but it didn’t register with me at first. As I drank the coke I saw slimy stuff in it and realized that my glass was not only USED but had remnants of sludge from food! I nearly vomited from this experience but I was able to control myself. As we waited 20 minutes for our check I asked another waitress if they could get me a manger. Some guy that looked like he was “in charge” came over and I explained to him that we were not happy with our experience. His reaction was brush me off and giving me his business card saying he’ll take care of me next time we come in (whatever that means). He didn’t take my name, and he didn’t offer to comp our dining experience that was horrid. He got us our check and another 15 minutes went by as we waited for the “waitress” to take our money. Overall we were at the place for 2 1/2 hours just for a meal for two with nothing special. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had in my life and I highly doubt it will be beat.

We will never go to Fred’s in Huntington Beach again, but we have gone to the one down in San Diego in the Gaslamp District and had a pleasant experience.

Mama D’s Italy Kitchen - Newport Beach

March 27, 2008 · Filed Under OC Food Reviews · Comment

The service at Mama D’s is exceptional. Luke (our waiter) made sure we were taken care of every second of our visit. From bread, to refills, to a free taste of their ravioli, and even some free cookies to take with us after our meal. I’ve never been treated as well as they treated us at Mama D’s. The food was good and everything was fresh. My fiancee had the Baked Ziti, and I have the Baked Stuffed Eggplant. Everything was good tasting. The bread was very tasty and they serve it along with a garlic, olive oil mixture..

If you are looking for good food and the most pleasant experience possible when going out to dinner, this is it!

Update 12/2006.
This place is still just as great and as amazing as it was when we first went there. Their service is a cut above and their food is delicious.

Update 01/13/07
We were here for my birthday with a group of 12. Service was exceptional as always. Food was delicious and when our meal was over they sang me happy birthday and gave me a card signed by the entire wait and cook staff that was personalized to me, and including a free appetizer on our next visit. They treat you like you are family and just like family I’m going to keep visiting them!

Jalepeno Mexican Restaurant - Orange

March 27, 2008 · Filed Under OC Food Reviews · Comment

I go to Jalepeno’s about 2-3 times a month, since it’s right down the street from work. I’ve tried numerous items on their menu and every one has been good. My favorite dish to try when I’m going to a new restaurant are Fish Tacos, and the grilled fish tacos here are some of the best I’ve had. They also have excellent beans and rice. Along with your order they serve you chips which are made fresh throughout the day. Watch out for the salsa, one is too mild and the other too hot, so I always mix the two to make it just right!
